How to know if the ways you rest and relax are actually serving you
It’s all about listening to your mind, body and spirit and giving them what they actually need! Your body is smart and is trying to communicate with you, you just need to listen and give yourself permission to do the things your mind and body truly need.
When you are resting and relaxing intentionally, you’re doing activities that rejuvenate and energize you after a day of work or parenting.
You’ll know if you’re giving yourself restorative rest because it feels different than the non intentional rest we usually try and give ourselves (scrolling through Instagram, watching a show, etc.). The effects of restorative rest last much longer.
A few ways to experience restorative rest
Going all in
Laura started using the mantra “go all in” to help her be really intentional with whatever it was she was doing at the moment (work, time with baby, family, spiritual practice, etc.)
Going all in can help you experience a task or moment more fully. And whenever you can be fully present and intentional, you’re bound to feel more restorative.
Know that creativity can play a big part in restorative rest
Restorative rest doesn’t just mean sleep. Doing something creative that speaks to you can really help restore what might have been missing.
Baking, painting, making a fort with your kiddos, running, exploring nature, writing, journaling… anything that sparks your creativity
Learn what doors invite your “best self” in
Are there certain activities that bring your best self forward?
Ex. yoga, meditation, listening to great music, playing the piano, taking a bath, playing a sport, gardening… whatever it is that speaks to you
Communication is key
If you want more restorative rest it’s crucial that you’re communicating with yourself and your loved ones so that you get the rest you need.
Whether it’s talking with your husband, kiddos or loved one it’s great to communicate what you’re needing in a loving way and they’ll be able to help you achieve it now that they know that it’s important to you.
Be sure to be on the look out on how you can help others achieve restorative rest as well
Try a 10 minute reset
This is a simple practice we absolutely love doing in the middle or end of the day when we’re feeling uninspired and exhausted.
It’s all about taking a few minutes out of your day to just be with yourself, to go inward, to let your body and mind relax and settle.
