Ep. 128 3 Questions For a Monthly Review (And a Life Update From Us!)
In this episode, we share an update on what’s new with the two of us, the details of Laura’s move to Nashville and her new life there, plus 3 questions to ask in a monthly life review to check in with your goals.
We chatted about:
What’s working well and what’s not working well for us right now
What we’re going to do differently next month
How you can use a monthly review like this to check in with your goals and make sure you’re being intentional
How to create good problems for your brain to solve rather than letting your brain make problems where there aren’t any (this is super fascinating when you apply it!)
3 Simple Questions For A Monthly Check-In
What’s going well right now?
What’s NOT going well?
What will I do differently this month?
These 3 questions might seem super simple and they are! But doing a monthly review like this is a great way to check in with your goals and make sure you’re being intentional throughout the month.
Let’s go over these questions in detail.
What’s going well right now?
Asking yourself what is going well helps you take note of the things you want to continue doing or habits you want to be sure to continue. It also gives you a chance to appreciate yourself and the work you’ve done already rather than always looking forward.
As you answer the first question, look for things you’re grateful for, work you’re proud of, special moments throughout the month. Describe how you’ve been feeling or notice the helpful thoughts you’re using.
What’s not going well right now?
Looking at what’s not going well gives you a chance to re-calibrate on the areas that need some attention. If we don’t take a second to take a good look at those things we might just keep doing them without thinking. Sometimes all it takes to make a big day-to-day change is noticing something that isn’t working and tweaking it.
Look for areas of resistance or discomfort, unhelpful patterns of thinking, relationships that could use some attention, or maybe whether your schedule was too full.
What will I do differently this month?
Now make some decisions about how to move forward into a new month. With the things you’ve observed and written down so far, what are you going to do differently? What adjustments will you make to your schedule or your thinking? What will you prioritize? What habits will you try or projects will you start or stop?
Write these changes down and commit to your new set of monthly goals and intentions!
Taking five minutes to answer these three simple questions can give you a lot of clarity and momentum moving into a new month.
