Make Progress On The Work You Feel Called To Do
The 3 Simple Steps To Making Progress
If you are like many of our listeners & readers there’s probably something you’ve felt called to do in motherhood, creativity, or the work you love. But sometimes it can be so hard to make actual progress on that work you’ve been called to do.
That’s why today we want to go over 3 simple steps that have helped us and so many other women make progress on the work they feel called to do. It’s an idea we got from Sarah Ban Breathnach and her book Simple Abundance and we hope you find it helpful too!
The 3 steps are to:
Dream
Do
Detach
Before you dive into the three steps, you first need to pick what you’re wanting to focus on or feel called to do and then you can start to dream, do and detach. Let’s go over the three steps in detail so we know where you’re at.
Make Progress By Dreaming
The first step is such a fun one and that is to dream or visualize.
Dream up what your project or work could look like. What’s the big picture? What kind of impact could it have on you and others? What’s the purpose? What do you want it to be like?
Have fun dreaming, visualizing and picturing exactly what your work could look like, feel like and be like.
Let your creativity flow and know that you can dream up whatever you’d like! The biggest thing to remember in this step is to make sure your dream aligns with what it is you really want and speaks to you personally.
2. Make Progress By Doing
The second step is to DO.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the dreaming, picturing and researching that we don’t actually take action. But if you want to make progress then you have to take action — even if it’s imperfect.
Remember that small little steps might seem insignificant but those little steps propel you forward.
The things to remember if you’re in the “doing” stage is to:
Trust Yourself
Enjoy using your gifts even if it’s uncomfortable
Be true to what it is you want
3. Make Progress By Detaching
Once you’ve dreamt up what you wanted and put in the effort, it’s time to let go! Detach yourself from the outcome.
It’s not your job to control the exact outcome. It’s not what you’re in charge of. Your energy is better used in the dreaming, the doing and experiencing.
This step can be hard (at least it is for us) but there is freedom in detaching yourself from the outcome.
So how do we detach?
Focus on what you can control
Physically, mentally and emotionally detach yourself
Maybe it goes back to the dreaming part and making sure that your dream aligns with what it is you really want.
