In this episode, we wanted to chat about how our summers are going and what we can do to either keep things going well or pivot so the season can end on a high note. Often we have high expectations for how we’ll prepare for or celebrate a certain time of year and end up disappointed when the reality isn’t as thrilling as we’d planned!
We chatted about:
Taking the pressure off ourselves
The one question to ask to ensure a successful summer
What to let go of this season
How to take a little time for yourself (spoiler alert: spend $20 on a babysitter!)
What to do when you wish you had a better “summer body” ;)
Helping your kids overcome boredom and find more creativity

Recap of Episode
5 Questions to Ask Yourself This Summer
What’s one event you want to remember from this summer?
What’s the feeling you want to remember when you look back on this summer next year?
How can you give yourself grace this summer?
What’s one thing you can let go of this summer?
What’s one thing you can do just for yourself this summer?
Having a More Intentional Summer
It’s your choice!
I think we forget that we get to choose how we want to create our summer or the life that we have. We always think of outside resources and voices telling us we have to be a certain way. But just ask yourself, what do you want your summer to be like? And then just enjoy it!
Is there anything you can let go of this summer?
What's one thing you can maybe let go of this summer that you put pressure on yourself or thought you were going to do and didn't get to? You can just decide that you’re going to let go of that.
Approach taking pictures of your kids and family different this summer.
It can help to be really intentional about just a few pictures that you want to take to help you remember the summer. You don't have to document everything. But maybe there's just one part where you take that one shot, and then that will help you remember all the great things and still enjoy the moment.
ex. a close up of your kids before or after they go swimming or a picture of everyone gathered together at the lake or a barbecue.
When Your Kids Are “Bored” This Summer
One good thing to work on as a mom during the summer is helping your kids be okay with being bored as long as they don’t get into too much trouble.
Try to help them find solutions to their boredom. Because a lot of times we think we just have to entertain them all the time or make sure they're really busy. But it can be so healthy to let them be bored so that they can let their own creativity run.
Maybe there's something that we could do to give them a hint or some guidance, and then letting their own creativity kind of take over.
Being “Ready” for Summer
Maybe we can question the perspective that we need to be “ready” for a certain season. We hear we should get in shape, get our swimsuit bodies ready, etc. But if you're taking time to prepare for a season, then maybe you're kind of missing the season that you're in.
Who says your body needs to be different in the summer than in the winter??? It’s not about how my body LOOKS but about what my body can DO in the summer that’s different than other seasons!
