Recap of Episode
Why Liking Your Wardrobe Matters
Liking what you wear can effect your thoughts about yourself and how you feel throughout the day
Think of how you FEEL wearing certain things (confident, comfortable etc.)
Certain clothes make you feel like YOU!
Helps you focus on more important things throughout your day
It matters what you wear — even if it’s just a day at home, even if it’s just for you. This way you’re not preoccupied or concerned with how you look
When you dress true to yourself, you can focus on other things…things that really matter
It’s an easy way to be more intentional about your day
Plus if you have a minimalist wardrobe it helps with decision fatigue and takes away the drama
How to Plan your Minimal Wardrobe
Combine planning with shopping
KNOW what you want BEFORE you go shopping!
Know ahead of time what it is that you really need/want/are looking for. You’ll have more success & less buyers remorse when you take a little time to plan out what you’d really be happy with.
Get ideas & inspiration from others
We love browsing Pinterest boards like this one
Collect looks you really like that speak to you
Take a look at any Pinterest boards you’ve made and see what you’ve already collected
Notice patterns and typical pins
We LOVE the book called The Curated Closet that can really help define your own style and give you lots of great tips. It’s our absolute favorite!!
Check out websites like un-fancy.com for outfit ideas and tips for a minimalist wardrobe
Evaluating what you already have at home
Colors, patterns, textures
Tops vs bottoms
What you always wear vs. what you keep, but never wear
Fill in gaps or add pieces that sound fun
Look for a specific type of item - “green utility jacket” or “cognac ankle boots"
5 Tips For Creating A Capsule Wardrobe
Make a list of shopping guidelines: what you like and what you DON’T. Only buy what you like.
Ex. My shirts (mostly) have to be: longer short sleeves, long, to not require a shirt underneath. And I never buy uncomfortable jeans!
Take the off-season stuff out of your closet.
Use outfit formulas and give yourself permission to wear similar things regularly.
Men do this all the time
Embrace wearing similar things regularly (This is why I have 6 gray sweaters.)
ex. Gray drapey sweaters + dark leggings
Swipe from celebrities with similar taste
Kate Middleton wears button-ups tucked into skinny jeans and striped shirts under blazers :)
Plan what you need BEFORE you go shopping instead of choosing things on the fly.
Buy one quality closet staple each season/year to get nice things that will last a long time without breaking the bank.
The Benefits to Having a Minimalist Wardrobe
Creates less mental energy and fewer decisions
Clean visual space in your closet = less overwhelm
Helps you love everything in your closet instead of feeling guilt or “ugh I have nothing to wear”
Creating a capsule wardrobe means that most of your items will go good together
