Ep. 95 Make Progress on What Matters Most
Are you working hard on the wrong things? Are you not working hard enough on what matters most? We talk often about finding your purpose and today we’re talking about using that clarity to start making progress in your life on what matters most to you. Let’s make sure you’re working hard on the RIGHT things.
We talked about:
How to cut back on the things that are keeping you from progressing
What simplifies your life and gives you the space and time to do more of what matters most
Finding the courage to invite hard things into our lives in order to do what matters
How to be okay with disappointment
First Ask Yourself These Questions
Are you making some things harder than they need to be?
Are you holding yourself back because you’re afraid to do hard things?
Working hard on the wrong things
Here are some ways you can cut back on things that don’t matter in your life — the things that are keeping you back from progressing:
Start by asking your future self: Will what I’m doing now really serve us?
Next, look at how you can make your life easier by creating repeatable systems you can rely on. Where can you simplify or systematize parts of your regular life so you can give your mental energy to what matters more?
Third, set an intention and ask God to help you know what to let go of to make room for what matters most. Eliminating nonessential things is so important!
Last, make sure you know your purpose and can see the bigger picture of what you’re trying to create with your life.
Not working hard enough on what matters most
It’s all about being willing to experience discomfort in order to do what matters most to you!
Are you holding yourself back because you’re afraid to do hard things? Those things that might seem scary or difficult? Do you distract yourself, procrastinate, or push those things aside because they’re uncomfortable?
Remember that you can do hard things! Embrace it and even choose the hard thing — because of the growth that comes from it.
You’ll also need to learn to trust yourself. Do what you say you’ll do and remain true to your commitments to yourself. And then release the outcomes. Be okay with disappointment and failure. Those things are an unavoidable part of doing what matters most but you can handle feeling disappointed!
