How to Create a Mantra That Speaks to You
First of all creating your own personal mantra can be so powerful because it will speak directly to you!
When you create a mantra that’s specific to you and your needs, you’ll find that it is so much more effective then grabbing a word or phrase that somebody else told you to use.
Why is that? Well because we don’t always believe what others tell us, but if we think it was “our idea” then we’re more likely to believe it.
When you have a personal mantra that is in your own voice and is perfectly made for you, something beautiful will start to happen…You’ll start showing up differently because you’ll feel differently!
The best part about creating a personal mantra is that you don’t have to create one mantra that works for everything. You can create a new personal mantra as many times as you’d like depending on what you’re needing that moment, week or day.
So here are three questions to get you creating your own personal mantra.
What are you struggling with right now that you’d like help with?
First find what you’d like to use your mantra for. Do you need help with:
Anxiety, patience with potty training, technical issue with work, limiting belief, following through on a new habit or goal, relationship etc.
Once you find what it is you want to use your mantra for, then you’ll be ready to start coming up with the words and feelings that support that.
What do you want to change about your thoughts, feelings or actions?
What’s happening right now with your current struggle that you don’t like? What do you wish was different? How could you believe differently?
How do you want to feel from now on?
What is the feeling that you’re after?
peace, patience, safety, love, confidence, feeling capable, excited, flexible etc.
Don’t forget to grab our FREE Create Your Own Mantra workbook that’ll help walk you through all the questions to create a mantra that speaks to you! Plus you can reuse it as many times as you’d like!
How do you know your personal mantra is a good fit?
Try it on for size!
Sometimes your personal mantra that you came up with will click right away.
Other times you’ll have to try it out for a few days or wait till you’re faced with the struggle you want to work on.
It’s kind of like trying on a good pair of shoes or jeans...sometimes you know right away they’re perfect and other times you might not know how well they’ll perform until you put them to the test.
How to remember your mantra and use it
Once you find a personal mantra that speaks to you, then you just need to start putting it into action. Here are a few ways that help us remember our mantras:
Include it on the top of your to-do list or planner
Sticky note
Write it in your phone or as your screen saver
Write it out 10 times in the morning
Repeat it while stretching, brushing your teeth, vacuuming, doing the dishes, walking etc.
Few extra tips when creating a mantra
Your mantra could be in your own voice, the voice of a loved one, mentor or God…whatever speaks to you!
With some practice you could start creating mantras on the spot whenever you need one. It’s not about creating one perfect mantra, it’s about practicing different thoughts that serve you.
