Ep. 28 The Secret to Accomplishing Big Goals
When it comes to goal-setting, this year has gone pretty well for the two of us and today we’re chatting about why. We share what monthly activity keeps us both on top of our progress for the big things we’re working on, how to stay focused on a simple list of your priorities for the year while also keeping up on the things you’re already doing well, and what the biggest factor is when it comes to moving the needle on making big things happen.

1. First, set aside time each month for a goal setting session to set monthly goals related to your yearly goals. Consistency on this matters the most! Even if you miss a month, get back on track the next month.
- Don’t be afraid to refresh and simplify your goals if they’re not working or you’re feeling overwhelmed by them. It is so helpful to know right off the top of your head what your goals are for the month and year and keeping the list short and simple helps you do this. Plus, having just a few goals helps you give your effort, time, and energy deeply to those few things to really make a strong impact rather than small improvements that don’t move the needle much.
2. Most importantly: become okay with being uncomfortable and don’t let that stop you from doing stuff! This is the secret to accomplishing your big goals! That’s when the best things have happened for the two of us. Plus, you gain more muscle to do hard things again -- the more you do it the less scary it will be.
- Expect things to be difficult at times and have a plan in place for that. One tool we love is using visualization to think through how you want to respond when those tough times come. By practicing it once mentally, your brain will be prepared to manage it for real.
- Another way to use visualization is to visualize every aspect of what you’ll feel like and be like when you reach your goal. Ask yourself, how can you feel and act now how you would when you accomplish it?
3. Remember to recognize and show gratitude for what you’ve already done! That can give you confidence to move forward on other goals you have now. Be grateful to yourself for the work you’ve put in and to God for helping to magnify your efforts. Remember that He can help you escalate your goals far beyond what you can on your own!
4. Lastly, we want to push you and encourage you to make your big dreams happen but we also want you to take care of yourself and know when it’s a season for rest and staying comfortable. Take the time you need, trusting that you’ll know when you’re ready to step back out of the cave and that you’ll be energized, refreshed, inspired, ready to do the next big thing!
